Taxonomy

Anthracomartus priesti was named by Pocock (1911). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Coseley, near Dudley (Priest coll), which is in a Westphalian B interdistributary bay shale in the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Cryptomartus priesti by Petrunkevitch (1945), Petrunkevitch (1949) and Petrunkevitch (1953).

Synonyms

Cleptomartus plautus was named by Petrunkevitch (1949). Its type specimen is BMNH In. 15896 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Coseley, near Dudley (Johnson coll), which is in a Westphalian B interdistributary bay shale in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Cleptomartus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anthracomartus priesti by Dunlop et al. (2013).
Anthracomartus denuiti was named by Pruvost (1922). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Mariemont-Bascoup coal mine, roof of Grande Veine du Parc, which is in a Westphalian A terrestrial siliciclastic in Belgium.

It was recombined as Cleptomartus denuiti by Petrunkevitch (1953); it was synonymized subjectively with Anthracomartus priesti by Dunlop et al. (2013).
