Taxonomy

Pleophrynus was named by Petrunkevitch (1945). Its type is Pleophrynus ensifer. It is the type genus of Pleophrynidae, Pleophryninae.

It was assigned to Pleophryninae by Petrunkevitch (1945); and to Eophrynidae by Petrunkevitch (1949), Petrunkevitch (1953) and Dunlop et al. (2013).

P. ensifer (type species), P. hawesi, P. verrucosus (syn. Eophrynus jugatus, Eophrynus warei)

Synonyms

Acrokreischeria was named by Petrunkevitch (1953). Its type is Kreischeria verrucosa.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pleophrynus by Dunlop et al. (2013).

It was assigned to Eophrynidae by Petrunkevitch (1953).
