Cyndalia was named by Grant (1993) [Sepkoski's age data: P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 1144]. Its type is Cyndalia rudistiformis.

It was assigned to Gemmellaroiidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
