Demonedys was named by Grant (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 418]. Its type is Demonedys fastigiata.

It was assigned to Anopliinae by Williams et al. (2000); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anopliidae by Shen et al. (2003).
