Taxonomy
Derbyia was named by Waagen (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 7,41,400,1142]. It is the type genus of Derbyiidae.

It was assigned to Articulata by Girty (1915); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Derbyiidae by Cooper and Grant (1974), Williams et al. (2000) and Shen et al. (2003).
