Taxonomy
Spiniclaviceras spirale was named by Venturi et al. (2007). Its type specimen is USP Fu3Sp01 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fu3a, Furlo Pass (Grilli Quarry), which is in a Jamesoni slope floatstone in Italy.
It was recombined as Metaderoceras spirale by Howarth (2013).
