Taxonomy
Ammonites levisoni was named by Simpson (1843).

It was synonymized subjectively with Hildaites murleyi by Howarth (1992); it was recombined as Hildaites levisoni by Howarth (1962), Bécaud (2006), Kovács (2011) and Benzaggagh et al. (2022).
