Uptonia micromphala was named by Pia (1913). It is the type species of Epideroceras (Pseuduptonia).
It was recombined as Epideroceras (Pseuduptonia) micromphalum by Bremer (1965); it was recombined as Pseuduptonia micromphala by Alkaya and Meister (1995).
