Eostrophonella was named by Williams (1950). Its type is Eostrophonella davidsoni.

It was reranked as Strophonella (Eostrophonella) by Williams (1951).

It was assigned to Strophonella by Williams (1951); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Strophonellidae by Williams et al. (2000) and Musteikis and Cocks (2004).
