Taxonomy
Pylentonema was named by Deflandre (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 546]. Its type is Pylentonema antiqua. It is the type genus of Pylentonemidae.
It was assigned to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pylentonemidae by De Wever et al. (2001), Feng et al. (2004) and Noble et al. (2017).
