Taxonomy
Caelatichthys meridensis was named by Lombardo (2002). Its type specimen is MCSN 5003, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Meride D, Val Mara, Monte San Giorgio (MCSN), which is in a Longobardian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Meride Formation of Switzerland.
