Infurca was named by Percival (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Infurca tessellata.

It was assigned to Strophomeninae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
