Taxonomy
Karavankina was named by Ramovs (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u P Sakm Sepkoski's reference number: 400,963]. Its type is Karavankina typica. It is the type genus of Karavankinini.

It was reranked as Echinoconchus (Karavankina) by Glushenko (1975).

It was assigned to Echinoconchus by Glushenko (1975); to Karavankinini by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
