Taxonomy
Globulodus elegans was named by Münster (1842). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Richelsdorf (Althaus coll), which is in a Wuchiapingian marine shale in the Kupferschiefer Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Platysomus elegans by Egerton (1949).
