Limbella was named by Stehli (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-u P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1,7,1066].

It was assigned to Echinosteginae by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960) and Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
