Liveringia was named by Archbold (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: P u Sepkoski's reference number: 881]. Its type is Liveringia magnifica.

It was assigned to Strophalosiinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
