Glossoleptaena was named by Havlicek (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid D Sieg-u Sepkoski's reference number: 25].

It was assigned to Leptaeninae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).

F. B. Kelly 1967 (Ludfordina)Small leptaeoid brachiopods having a more or less pronounced anteromedian sulcus. Both valves sharply geniculate dorsally; radial ornament and rugae obsolescent. Ventral muscle-scars elongate, dorsal ones not strongly defined.
