Taxonomy
Pyramispongia was named by Pessagno (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l K Turo-l]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pyramispongiidae.

It was assigned to Cavaspongiidae by Zügel (1997); to Pyramispongiidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
