Marginalosia was named by Waterhouse (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 427].

It was assigned to Dasyalosiinae by Williams et al. (2000); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Echinalosiinae by Williams et al. (2007).
