Mesoleptostrophia was named by Harper and Boucot (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m D Gedi Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Leptostrophiidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
