Taxonomy
Vitreisporites was named by Leschik (1955) [G. Leschik in R. Kräusel & G. Leschik, 1955 sensu Potonié 1958.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was assigned to Gymnospermophyta by Leschik (1955); to Caytoniaceae by Jarzen (1982); and to Caytoniales by Vera et al. (2022).
