Taxonomy
Nanambonites was named by Liu (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi Sepkoski's reference number: 878]. Its type is Nanambonites paucus.

It was reranked as Taphrodonta (Nanambonites) by Williams et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Taphrodonta by Williams et al. (2000); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Taphrodontinae by Zhan et al. (2014).
