Notanoplia was named by Gill (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Spiriferida by Williams et al. (2006).
