Oligorachis was named by Imbrie (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-l Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. Its type is Oligorachis oligorachis.

It was assigned to Heteralosiinae by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960); to Donalosiinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
