Loxophragmus was named by Cooper and Grant (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 7].

It was assigned to Lyttoniinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
