Taxonomy
Palaeoleptostrophia was named by Rong and Cocks (1994). Its type is Palaeoleptostrophia jamesoni.

It was assigned to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Leptostrophiidae by Williams et al. (2000) and Musteikis and Cocks (2004).
