Taxonomy
Rhynchonella cynica was named by Buckman (1895).

It was synonymized subjectively with Rhynchonella meridionalis by Ager (1967); it was recombined as Rhynchonelloidea cynica by Ager (1956), Hollingworth et al. (1990) and Alméras et al. (1996).
