Parapholidostrophia was named by Johnson (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 25,47].

It was assigned to Pholidostrophidae by Johnson (1971); to Strophodontidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
