Biplatyconcha was named by Waterhouse (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: P Sepkoski's reference number: 881]. Its type is Platyconcha grandis.

It was assigned to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); to Strophalosiidae by Shen et al. (2003); and to Strophalosiinae by Williams et al. (2007).
