Poikilosakos was named by Watson (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 411]. It is not extant. Its type is Poikilosakos petaloides. It is the type genus of Poikilosakinae.
It was assigned to Poikilosakinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
