Taxonomy
Buprestites purbecensis was named by Cockerell (1920). Its type specimen is BMNH I.10423, an elytra, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bagshot Beds, Studland Bay, Isle of Purbeck, which is in a Lutetian pond claystone in the Poole Formation of the United Kingdom.
