G. M. Del Fueyo and A. Archangelsky 2002 | Shoots with secondary xylem preserved; rays homocellular, uniseriate, cross-field pitting of the cupressoid type. Leaves multiveined, large, triangular-lanceolate, with acute apex, decurrent base, entire margins; strongly keeled on abaxial surface, imbricate, closely packed and spirally arranged. Leaves also amphistomatic; abaxial and adaxial surfaces indistinguishable; stomata in regular rows; apertures parallel to leaf axis. Stomatal apparatus elliptical; monocyclic with four (two lateral and two polar) subsidiary cells; guard cells sunken, reniform. Epidermal cells of two shapes: in the same stomatal row, polygonal; between stomatal row, elongate rectangular; anticlinal flanges straight. Hypodermal layer of fibres present. Ultrastructure of the cuticular membrane consists of parallel and wavy fibrillar material, alternating with amorphous areas. A lamellate layer is present in the upper part of the cuticle. |
