Septiconcha was named by Termier et al. (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 963]. Its type is Septiconcha taeniosa.

It was assigned to Echinoconchoidea by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
