Taxonomy
Carabites russelli was named by Cockerell (1928). Its type specimen is YPM IP 025709, an elytra, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Southwest of Dupree, which is in a Maastrichtian marine shale in the Fox Hills Formation of South Dakota.
