Taxonomy
Svalbardia was named by Barkhatova (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. It is the type genus of Svalbardiinae.

It was assigned to Svalbardiinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
