Taxonomy
Ukoa was named by Öpik (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi Sepkoski's reference number: 878]. It is the type genus of Ukoainae.

It was assigned to Plectellinae by Öpik (1932); to Ahtiellinae by Williams and Curry (1985); to Plectambonitoidea by Williams et al. (2000); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ukoainae by Pedersen and Rasmussen (2019).

M. Pedersen and C. M. Ø. Rasmussen 2019Large, strongly resupinate profile with triangular outline. Widest point at hinge line and rectimarginate anterior commissure. Ventral interarea apsacline, dorsal interarea anacline. Pseudodeltidium and chilidium closed. Unequally parvicostellate ornamentation interrupted by weak, closely spaced concentric ornament (fila). Delayed accentuated costae seen towards the rectimarginate anterior margin. Pseudopunctate. Ventral interior with triangular to heart-shaped muscle field and dorsal interior with ridge-like cardinal process fused on valve floor. Platform not present.
