Clorinda was named by Barrande (1879). Its type is Clorinda armata.

It was replaced with Plagiarthrus by Ameghino (1897).

It was assigned to Clorindidae by Jin and Chatterton (1997); to Clorindinae by Bassett and Cocks (1974) and Williams et al. (2002); and to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002).
