Taxonomy
Tipula furensis was named by Freiwald (1990). Its type specimen is FM 157, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Østklint, Fur, horizon E (Fur Museum coll), which is in a Ypresian offshore ramp claystone in the Ølst Formation of Denmark.
