Ehlersella was named by Boucot and Johnson (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 25].

It was assigned to Stricklandiinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002).
