Gypidulina was named by Rzhonsnitzkaya (1956). Its type is Pentamerus optatus.

It was assigned to Sieberellinae by Jin and Chatterton (1997); to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gypidulinae by Williams et al. (2002).
