Catomerus laticollis was named by Handlirsch (1939). It is an impression. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Greifswald collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany. It is the type species of Catomerus, Clinomerus.
It was recombined as Clinomerus laticollis by Carpenter (1986).
