Taxonomy
Kirkidium was named by Amsden et al. (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: S (Wenl-l) S (Prid) [25, 27]]. Its type is Pentamerus knightii.

It was assigned to Pentamerinae by Bassett and Cocks (1974), Jin and Chatterton (1997); to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pentameridae by Williams et al. (2002).
