Anhomalophlebia was named by Handlirsch (1919). Its type is Homalophlebia couloni. It is the type genus of Anhomalophlebiidae.
It was assigned to Anhomalophlebiidae by Handlirsch (1919) and Handlirsch (1922); to Oedischiidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Oedischiinae by Gorochov (1995).
