Microcardinalia was named by Boucot and Ehlers (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 25,1264]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kulumbellinae by Williams et al. (2002).
