Plicidium was named by Rong and Yang (1981) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m Sepkoski's reference number: 1264]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pleurodiinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002).
