Taxonomy
Lacazella novazelandiae was named by Hiller (2011). Its type specimen is CM 2006.64.93 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is O06/f0116, O06/f0117 - Taita Stream [Waititi Fm], which is in an Otaian coastal mudstone/sandstone in the Waititi Formation of New Zealand.
