Taxonomy
Apis mellifera was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant.

It was corrected as Apis mellifica by Linnaeus (1761), Scopoli (1763), Linnaeus (1767), Fabricius (1775), Müller (1776) and Harris (1780); it was recombined as Apis (Apis) mellifera by Zeuner and Manning (1976).
