Taxonomy
Palaeovespa relecta was named by Cockerell (1923). Its type specimen is DMNH-1971, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant (Colorado Mus. Nat. History Collection), which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.
