Cooperrhynchia was named by Sandy and Campbell (1994) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-u]. Its type is Rhynchonella schucherti.

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhynchonellininae by Sandy and Campbell (1994) and Williams et al. (2002).
