Taxonomy
Cryptorhynchia was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale J Call Sepkoski's reference number: 1091]. Its type is Rhynchonella pulcherrima. It is the type genus of Cryptorhynchiinae.

It was reranked as Rhynchonella (Cryptorhynchia) by Trechmann (1923).

It was assigned to Rhynchonella by Trechmann (1923); to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cryptorhynchiinae by Williams et al. (2002).
